Nature Indoors: Green Plants for a Lasting Impression
Comprising offices, restaurants, retail and leisure set across four landscaped squares, Broadgate Tower is an iconic building that helps define the London skyline. With 33 floors, 19 tenants, and several thousand staff and guests visiting the building every day, the reception area is their first impression of this landmark building, so we were delighted to bring our biophilic approach to the space.
British Land, the company that owns Broadgate, recently reviewed all their receptions on the Broadgate campus with the intention of creating a more unified look throughout their buildings. They wanted to remove all fresh flowers, orchids, and colourful tropical planting and replace them with bigger, leafier green plants, with rounder leaves and softer foliage, avoiding ‘spiky’ plants where possible.
Once Plant Designs had been awarded the contract, we worked closely with the property manager to select the final species to be used in the installation. British Land specified that they wanted to “fill the reception with plants as much a possible”, meaning there was ample choice of species we could use.
Whilst the reception is large in terms of height its layout and floor space are relatively limited. Groups of plants of varying heights were used to create impact, while we placed tall single plants in the narrower spaces. Polystone pots in a natural finish were selected to complement the marble flooring.
