Captivating Autumnal Design at the Blue Fin Building, London.
Within the Bankside area of London sits the Blue Fin Building; a collection of office spaces that prides itself on not only it’s modern interiors but also it’s community and commitment to inspiring occupiers on a daily basis.
The Blue Fin Building commissions eye catching and creative displays with the aim of celebrating and increasing awareness of varied events throughout the year, as well as inspiring occupiers as they arrive into the building each day.
For the month of November, we were asked to create and install a unique autumnal display. With a mixture of themes included in the brief, we got to work on creating ‘November Lights’, a design that represented and combined both Diwali and Bonfire night in a clear and beautiful way.
A big priority when designing the scheme was figuring out how to incorporate natural elements that represented Plant Designs, whilst equally portraying the autumnal feel of Diwali and Bonfire Night in a way that was sophisticated and eye catching.
To achieve this, we created a design using a mixture of dried and replica foliage, all tied in with some key seasonal props. The use of foliage such as branches and leaves allowed us to form an autumnal colour scheme of oranges, browns and deep reds. Replica flowers added pops of blues and purples into the mix, whilst props such as three-dimensional stars, lanterns and crates created the perfect mix of rustic and luxury needed to represent the events.
Using a base structure of a large metal crescent ring, the foliage winds and twists as if growing wild in this shape, whilst props create a focal point at the bottom. The installation team built and dressed the display onsite, allowing the delivery to be completed with the use of only one vehicle, simplifying the process and also reducing environmental impact.
Not only did the use of dried and replica materials allow us to achieve the exact look we wanted, it also meant that the design required no maintenance throughout the month. One of the most important factors to consider whenever we create displays that will be in place for an extended period is the durability and the capability to look as good on the final day as it did on the first day.
As mentioned, where possible we aim to reduce environmental impact of any designs we create and install. Several elements included in the ‘November Light’s display were reused or repurposed to fit the brief and extend the lifespan of materials already available to us. Plus, thanks to the display being created with replica and dried foliage all extra materials used in the design will be stored in our warehouse, ready to be re-used as part of other events.
Ultimately, the ‘November Lights’ scheme was an elegant and bold celebration of both Diwali and Bonfire Night that provided occupiers with a colourful and inspiring welcome into the Blue Fin Building.
