A Sustainable Billboard Installation in Euston Square, London.
Armed with a brief of creating a visually eye-catching billboard in the heart of London, we teamed up with creative production company Chaos Theory for this exciting project.
Winemakers Stoneleigh wanted to use a billboard to showcase their connection to sustainability, and with the installation being in the bustling area of Euston Square for the duration of a month it was important that it created engagement with passers-by. To achieve this, we set out to create a unique three dimensional billboard with leaves and foliage bursting out alongside an amazing hand painted mural depicting the company’s branding.
Stoneleigh’s brand ethos focuses on organic ingredients and eco-friendly processes, so our biggest priority was using natural living foliage to ensure the campaign fitted this ethos. Due to the nature of the location and the lifespan of the installation it was crucial that our planting design required minimal maintenance. We therefore chose to avoid plants that require soil and water, and instead opted for preserved plants that are maintenance free and guaranteed to retain their original beauty for many years.
Working with Plant Designs on this job was great and we were very happy to take their expertise regarding which planting would work best for the project. The preserved foliage was the perfect solution, and we were extremely happy with the end result. It looked natural and organic as we had envisaged and gave the overall installation an eye-catching element as if the plants were growing out of the wall. Would definitely consider this option for future projects now that we know how good preserved plants can look!Oli
The preserved foliage we work with undergoes treatment using a plant-based and biodegradable preservation formula that is toxic free to ensure it is as eco-friendly as possible. There are many varieties of plants that can undergo this process, but for the Stoneleigh activation we used large tropical palm leaves and soft textured ferns to create a dense display of greenery that matched their graphic branding.
Installation of this project was a fast paced and exciting one, working alongside Chaos Theory and scenic artists to bring everything together, all whilst working at height in a heavy footfall area. But we are so pleased with how the design turned out and we can’t wait to work on more billboard projects in the future!
